What you will do
- Lead the design and delivery of secure checkout and payment APIs for AI agents, including UCP, ACP, AP2, agentic tokens, delegated credentials, verifiable intent, and MPP.
- Define platform patterns for agent identity, delegated authority, authentication, tokenization, fraud signals, evidence records, reporting, and downstream payment integration.
- Architect and ship merchant-facing APIs and SDKs with clear contracts, predictable error handling, strong documentation, testing, and developer-friendly integration flows.
- Set technical direction for a greenfield agentic commerce squad while balancing interoperability, security, reliability, scalability, and extensibility.
- Provide hands-on leadership through architecture reviews, design decisions, code reviews, mentoring, incident learning, and engineering standards.
- Collaborate with internal teams, standards groups, AI commerce partners, merchants, and external developers.
Requirements
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, including architecture and production ownership of distributed services, APIs, or transaction-processing platforms.
- Strong cloud-native engineering experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or comparable public cloud environments.
- Practical understanding of AI-agent systems, tools, APIs, structured inputs and outputs, delegated permissions, and external services.
- Proven technical leadership experience covering architecture ownership, mentoring, design reviews, cross-functional influence, and technical trade-offs.
- Experience designing API-first platforms with versioning, documentation, testing strategies, secure integration patterns, and strong developer experience.
- Ability to work in a hybrid setup in London, United Kingdom.
Nice to have
- Experience in payments, fintech, commerce platforms, card-not-present processing, checkout, gateways, tokenization, 3DS/SCA, fraud and risk systems, disputes, reporting, or real-time money movement.
- Experience with LLM-powered applications, AI agent frameworks, tool-calling systems, MCP-style integrations, A2A-style protocols, or agentic commerce standards.
- Open-source contributions, standards work, technical writing, conference participation, community engagement, or greenfield product experience.
