Confluent Senior Software Engineer II (Secure Compute)

Location: Remote within the United States; listed locations include Poughkeepsie, Lowell, Rochester, Tucson, Research Triangle Park, Armonk, Boston, Bellevue, Atlanta, San Jose, Dallas, Austin, San Francisco, and Seattle. Some travel may be required based on business demand.

Salary: $131,000–$245,000 per year.

What you will do

• Design and implement complex backend services in a cloud-native, microservices-based environment.
• Drive projects from requirements and architecture through implementation, rollout, and production operation.
• Make technical decisions balancing reliability, scalability, performance, and operability.
• Improve reliability through SLOs and SLAs, observability, incident response, and operational practices.
• Define APIs, integration points, and data models across teams.
• Mentor engineers and lead platform, tooling, and productivity improvements.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience designing, building, and supporting backend systems in production.
• Strong Python runtime knowledge and proficiency in a major programming language such as Python, Go, C, C++, or Java.
• Experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure, including containers, Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud-native technologies.
• Experience with large-scale distributed systems, observability, metrics, logging, tracing, incident response, and postmortems.
• Technical leadership experience driving projects and influencing architecture across teams.
• Ability to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship; IBM will not provide visa sponsorship.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree or PhD in computer science or a related field.
• Expertise in JVM, WASM, or other language runtimes and VMs.
• Experience with container sandboxing technologies and on-call support for critical systems.
• Experience delivering highly available, low-latency systems.
