Engineering Manager (AI)

Location: Veszprém, Hungary; majority office-based at the Veszprém office

What you will do

• Lead engineering for the MetaDefender Email Gateway Security product, owning architecture, delivery, quality, security, and releases.
• Make AI agents a core part of the software development lifecycle for specifications, code, testing, verification, and reviews while maintaining human validation.
• Remain hands-on by writing and reviewing critical code, prototyping solutions, and resolving complex technical problems.
• Translate the product roadmap into engineering execution, sequencing work and managing scope, technical risk, quality, and timelines.
• Recruit, mentor, develop, and retain engineers in Hungary while establishing strong engineering standards and career paths.
• Improve CI/CD and AI-assisted development workflows and collaborate with product, design, security, and engineering leaders.

Requirements

• Experience with a full agentic, AI-powered SDLC in B2B or enterprise environments with compliance, data sensitivity, and assurance requirements.
• At least 5 years of software engineering experience and 3+ years leading engineering teams through complex product delivery at scale.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals, including design patterns, SOLID principles, modern architecture, and rigorous evaluation of AI-assisted code.
• Experience building and supporting products deployed primarily on premises.
• High standards for tested, maintainable, and secure code, with human review maintained throughout the development process.
• Ability to work primarily from the Veszprém office in Hungary.

Nice to have

• Understanding of email communication, email security technologies, and related protocols and deployment models.
• Experience integrating products with Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace APIs.
• Hands-on or managerial experience with .NET Core and C#.
• Experience authoring AI context files such as CLAUDE.md or .cursorrules.
• Experience running AI agents in CI/CD pipelines for tasks such as lint fixes, test generation, or safe migrations.
