Senior Firmware Engineer (Embedded)

Location: San Francisco, CA or New York, NY

Salary: $180K–$210K annually, plus equity

What you will do

• Bring up and integrate advanced sensor technologies into current and next-generation Pod hardware.
• Design and implement firmware for production devices and compute-constrained, low-memory environments.
• Collaborate with hardware teams on prototyping, schematics, data sheets, hardware bring-up, and debugging.
• Develop firmware standards, tooling, automated tests, and deployment processes.
• Support large device fleets through telemetry monitoring and OTA firmware updates.
• Work with the manufacturing team in China to develop tests and deliver high-quality products, including regular travel to China.

Requirements

• 4+ years of software engineering experience focused on firmware development.
• Professional experience with C/C++ for firmware and Python or NodeJS for client or test tooling.
• Experience with peripheral drivers and UART, I2C, SPI, and USB communication protocols, including DMA.
• Experience launching and maintaining large fleets of devices, telemetry, and OTA firmware updates.
• Knowledge of bare-metal systems, low-level task management, wireless communication standards, automated testing, observability, and embedded security.
• Willingness and ability to travel regularly to China for team support and collaboration.

Nice to have

• Experience with logic analyzers and oscilloscopes.
• Experience developing without a traditional RTOS.
