Software Engineer (Embedded Systems)

Location: Hybrid role in Marshalltown, Iowa, United States

What you will do

• Develop web interfaces for device configuration, diagnostics, monitoring dashboards, and remote management.
• Collaborate with firmware and hardware engineers to integrate web applications with low-level systems.
• Optimize applications for constrained environments with limited memory and bandwidth.
• Design RESTful APIs, WebSocket interfaces, and other communication mechanisms for embedded devices.
• Apply secure development practices across frontend and communication layers.
• Contribute to testing, documentation, code reviews, deployment, and CI/CD workflows.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in software engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of professional software development experience with C/C++ in embedded contexts.
• Experience with embedded systems, RTOS or Linux-based firmware, microcontrollers, SoCs, or IoT platforms.
• Knowledge of HTTP, WebSockets, MQTT, and other networking protocols, plus proficiency in Node.js or Python.
• Experience with automated testing, Git, build automation, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future is required. Temporary visa holders and candidates requiring current or future sponsorship are not eligible.

Nice to have

• Frontend development experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript, React, or Vue.
• Experience building headless or embedded device user interfaces.
• Knowledge of serverless or cloud-native architectures and low-performance web UI optimization.
• Experience with Figma, cybersecurity, secure software development, industrial automation, control systems, or Industrial IoT.
