Engineering Manager – Auctions

Location: Central Berlin, Germany; hybrid with 3 days in the office and 2 days from home. Up to 25 Work from Anywhere days per year.

What you will do

• Lead the TRX team responsible for real-time auctions and selling modalities, managing seven engineers across backend, web, and mobile.
• Set the technical strategy for the auction domain, align it with OKRs, and make architecture decisions with the team.
• Own delivery and quality, including delivery methodology, testing layers, and risk management for live auctions.
• Define technical metrics, alerts, and operational responses.
• Hire, level, develop, mentor, and manage engineers through onboarding, growth plans, feedback, and performance processes.
• Balance product and engineering priorities while driving AI adoption and using AI tools in daily work.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience in individual contributor roles before moving into management.
• 2+ years managing engineers as a line manager with performance and hiring responsibility.
• Strong depth in distributed systems, including services, concurrency, and data consistency.
• Experience assembling, hiring, leveling, and growing an engineering team.
• Experience running a delivery methodology and defining testing layers, technical strategy, and governance linked to OKRs.
• English at C1 level or above is required as the working language.

Nice to have

• Experience with real-time or event-driven systems under load, object-oriented design, and domain-driven design.
• Experience with monolith-to-services migrations, team stabilization, or distributed teams across time zones.
• Background in marketplaces, auctions, automotive, payments, or trading.
• Experience with TypeScript, NestJS, RabbitMQ, PostgreSQL, Heroku, Angular, or Flutter.
• German language skills.
