Head of Engineering (AI)

Location: Hamburg, hybrid, with 1–2 office days depending on location; roles are open in Hamburg and Zürich.

What you will do

• Lead, coach, and mentor approximately 7–9 professionals, including Team Leads and Senior Engineers.
• Own career development and help Team Leads build high-performing sub-teams.
• Define the roadmap for integrating AI into the engineering lifecycle, including GitHub Copilot and agentic workflows.
• Own resource planning, budget monitoring, utilization, and the operational performance of the engineering department.
• Partner with Directors and VPs on hirify.global’s technology vision in the DACH region and advise key accounts on technical topics.
• Build an inclusive, motivating, high-performance culture with modern knowledge-sharing and innovation rituals.

Requirements

• Experience leading managers or larger engineering departments in a manager-of-managers structure.
• Strong understanding of AI’s potential in the software development lifecycle and how engineering organizations should evolve.
• Deep technical background in frontend development and the ability to validate architectural decisions.
• Business understanding of the economic drivers of an agency or consultancy, including KPI management.
• Confident German and English communication skills are required.
