Lead Engineer (AI)

Location: Hamburg, hybrid; roles are open in Hamburg and Zürich. Office attendance is expected 1–2 days per week, depending on location.

What you will do

• Lead, coach, and mentor Team Leads and Senior Engineers while owning career development and team excellence.
• Define the roadmap for integrating AI into the engineering lifecycle, including GitHub Copilot and agentic workflows.
• Own operational performance, including resource planning, budget monitoring, utilization, profitability, and scalability.
• Partner with Directors and VPs to shape the technological vision for the DACH region.
• Act as a senior technical sparring partner for key accounts and establish rituals that support knowledge sharing and innovation.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a people manager in a manager-of-managers structure or in leading a larger engineering department.
• Strong understanding of AI’s potential in the software lifecycle and a clear vision for modern engineering organizations.
• Deep technical background in frontend development.
• Understanding of the economic drivers of an agency or consultancy and the ability to translate KPIs into action.
• Confident communication in German and English is required.
