Mechatronics Engineer (Robotics)

Location: Oak Ridge, TN or remote; any location is listed as eligible. Remote employees must travel to the Santa Clara, CA headquarters twice per quarter based on business or team needs, and must work onsite there during the first two weeks of onboarding.

Salary: $100,000–$195,000 per year

What you will do

• Design robotic and electromechanical systems for remote handling in high-temperature, high-corrosion, and high-radiation environments.
• Define system architectures, specifications, control logic, and performance criteria for automated material-handling and process systems.
• Integrate automation hardware, sensors, PLCs, and control systems for reliable unmanned operations.
• Build, test, and iterate on automation and material-handling prototypes.
• Lead automation and handling systems through design, fabrication, installation, commissioning, operation, and maintenance.
• Prepare technical documentation for fabrication, operations, maintenance, regulatory filings, and internal knowledge capture.

Requirements

• Engineering education in mechatronics, mechanical engineering, robotics, electrical engineering, or a related discipline.
• 5–10 years of experience designing automation or robotic systems.
• Hands-on experience with PLCs, industrial automation, and robotics programming.
• Expert proficiency with CAD software, preferably SolidWorks, and experience with 2D/3D modeling.
• Broad engineering knowledge with strong systems integration judgment.
• Clear technical writing and cross-functional communication skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with robotic arms, conveyors, automated handling systems, or unmanned manufacturing systems.
• Experience designing for remote, hazardous, radiological hot-cell, or high-temperature environments above 500°C.
• Knowledge of GD&T, design for manufacturing, ANSYS, ROS, or MATLAB/Simulink.
• Background in nuclear, petrochemical, or pharmaceutical industries, or experience with pilot plants.
• Located near Oak Ridge, TN.
