BESS PV Engineer

What you will do

• Lead owner-side technical reviews of solar PV and BESS designs, including electrical, protection, controls, civil, structural, grounding, and medium-voltage systems.
• Review EPC submittals, RFIs, inspection and test plans, equipment substitutions, nonconformances, change-order technical bases, and as-built records.
• Review and witness commissioning, acceptance testing, BESS energization, protection testing, utility testing, EMS and plant-controller validation, and SCADA monitoring verification.
• Independently recalculate PV and BESS capacity, efficiency, availability, ramp-rate, response-time, and performance test results.
• Perform failure and root-cause analysis, support repowering and remediation scopes, and substantiate warranty, performance guarantee, and insurance claims.
• Maintain technical records, fleet standards, engineering checklists, turnover documentation, equipment registers, and lessons learned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering required; mechanical, power, or related engineering disciplines may be considered with relevant experience.
• At least five years of experience in solar PV and/or battery energy storage design, owner’s engineering, commissioning, or performance engineering.
• Working knowledge of PV and BESS architectures, medium-voltage collection, protection and controls, and commissioning and performance testing.
• Knowledge of NEC Articles 690, 705, and 706; IEEE 1547 and 2800; NFPA 855; UL 9540 and UL 9540A; and utility interconnection requirements.
• Proficiency with PVsyst or equivalent, AutoCAD or Bluebeam, and sufficient familiarity with ETAP, SKM, or PowerFactory to review power-system studies.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as needed; OSHA 30 and NFPA 70E awareness must be current or obtainable within 90 days.

Nice to have

• Professional Engineer license or EIT status with a defined path to licensure.
• Experience with multiple BESS platforms, EMS or plant-controller integration, repowering, remediation, or inherited in-flight construction.
• Data analysis experience with Excel, Python, or SQL.
• NABCEP certification.
