Senior Development Engineer (Solar)

Location: Remote from the United States, preferably near a major airport; occasional travel to project sites throughout North America is required.

Salary: $165,000–$185,000 per year

What you will do

• Conduct technical diligence, feasibility analyses, risk identification, design reviews, and cost estimation for greenfield and M&A projects.
• Develop conceptual and preliminary designs for solar, solar-plus-storage, and standalone storage projects using industry design software.
• Build energy production forecasts and analyze actual performance for development projects and operating facilities.
• Optimize PV and ESS system designs for production yield, generating capacity, capital cost, and financial returns.
• Evaluate shading, terrain, soiling, and other loss factors to improve forecast accuracy and project value.
• Collaborate with business development, procurement, project management, consultants, and contractors on technical scopes, RFIs, specifications, and EPC RFP exhibits.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s, master’s, or higher degree in electrical, civil, or mechanical engineering, renewable energy, physics, or a related quantitative discipline.
• At least five years of hands-on experience with project site diligence, design engineering, performance modeling, and energy forecasting for utility-scale PV or PV-plus-BESS projects.
• Experience with PVSYST and exposure to Plant Predict, NREL System Advisor Model, or Helioscope.
• Strong technical communication, writing, presentation, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook; Procore experience is advantageous.
• Ability and willingness to travel occasionally to project sites, often in remote locations, and work overtime on short notice when necessary.

Nice to have

• Experience with PV module quality assurance, performance evaluation and testing, solar plant operations, or inverter and generator testing and troubleshooting.
• Understanding of solar project schedules, cost estimation, or construction.
• Experience with PlantPredict, NREL System Advisor Model, Helioscope, or Procore.
