Director, Financial Planning and Analysis (Life Sciences)

Location: Hybrid role in San Diego, California, United States

Base compensation: $157,500–$197,125 annually. Additional compensation includes a potential 22% annual bonus and a $30,000 annual equity award.

What you will do

• Act as a strategic finance partner to business units and functional leaders, providing analysis and recommendations for growth, profitability, cash flow, and resource allocation.
• Lead annual operating plans, forecasts, long-range planning, budgeting, and scenario analysis.
• Build and maintain financial models covering revenue, margins, operating expenses, headcount, capital expenditures, and profitability.
• Lead monthly and quarterly performance reviews, variance analysis, KPI reporting, management presentations, and executive-level deliverables.
• Evaluate pricing, product and customer profitability, manufacturing costs, inventory, capacity, investments, acquisitions, and strategic initiatives.
• Lead, coach, and develop a small team while improving financial systems, reporting tools, dashboards, and process automation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Typically 10–15 years of progressive experience in FP&A, corporate finance, operational finance, or related financial leadership roles.
• At least 5 years of leadership experience managing or developing finance professionals and partnering with senior business leaders.
• Advanced experience with financial modeling, budgeting, forecasting, management reporting, financial performance analysis, and Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with ERP and CRM systems, financial planning platforms, and business intelligence tools.
• Strong knowledge of financial statements, accounting principles, internal controls, communication, problem-solving, and cross-functional leadership.

Nice to have

• Experience in a publicly traded company or an organization with comparable reporting and internal control requirements.
• Experience in manufacturing, life sciences, medical devices, diagnostics, or other complex product-based businesses.
• MBA, CPA, CMA, or another relevant advanced qualification.
