R&D Staff Software Engineer (Zowe)

Location: USA-PA Pittsburgh Holiday Drive; other listed location: Melville, New York. Office environment with no or minimal business travel.

Annual base salary: USD 109,700–175,500, plus discretionary annual bonus and equity awards.

hirify.global's Mainframe Software Division develops enterprise software and open-source solutions for modern mainframe environments.

What you will do

• Drive the technical direction and architecture of Zowe CLI, Zowe Explorer, and other Zowe client applications.
• Design, develop, test, and maintain features using TypeScript, Node.js, React, AG Grid, and related technologies.
• Build command-line interfaces, REST API integrations, and connections to z/OS services such as JES, MVS datasets, and z/OSMF.
• Improve performance, scalability, reliability, maintainability, and security across the codebase.
• Mentor engineers, lead code reviews and design discussions, and collaborate with product management and UX teams.
• Contribute to the Zowe open-source community, including standards, documentation, tutorials, and technical support.

Requirements

• 8 or more years of experience in mainframe software development or a related field.
• Experience with JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, C/C++, and Node.js-based applications.
• Experience developing on Linux or Unix systems.
• Expertise in building and maintaining VS Code extensions with the VS Code Extension API, plus strong web technology knowledge.
• Strong CLI development, Git, Agile/Scrum, testing, troubleshooting, and software development lifecycle skills.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

• Direct experience with Zowe CLI or Zowe Explorer.
• Knowledge of z/OS, MVS, JES, TSO/ISPF, and z/OSMF REST APIs.
• Experience with other Zowe components, Electron, OpenAPI/Swagger, or large-scale open-source projects.
