Senior Software Engineer (Backend/Elixir)

Location: Boston office in Charlestown, Massachusetts; minimum 3 days per week in the office

Salary: $176,000–$183,500 annually in Boston

What you will do

• Design and implement backend systems for automated restaurants and robotic solutions.
• Manage complex state across distributed systems for order fulfillment, robotic communication, and human-machine interaction.
• Build infrastructure spanning cloud and on-premise resources, including event-driven architectures, PostgreSQL databases, WebSocket protocols, and containerized applications.
• Maintain software reliability through testing, release management, monitoring, and performance improvements.
• Plan and deliver product features, facilitate technical discussions, document designs, and mentor engineers.
• Improve engineering processes by applying best practices and automating repetitive tasks.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with highly concurrent, distributed systems deployed to production.
• Strong system design skills, product focus, and experience owning features end to end.
• Proficiency in Elixir and Phoenix, or significant experience with another functional language and willingness to master Elixir.
• Experience with PostgreSQL, relational database design, WebSockets, REST APIs, webhooks, message-based systems, and Terraform.
• Pragmatic problem-solving skills and strong communication with product, design, and operations partners.
