Instrumentation Engineer (Test & Validation)

Location: Desford, Leicestershire, United Kingdom; onsite engineering role with up to 10% international travel.

Salary: £49,500–£61,000 per year, depending on demonstrated skills.

What you will do

• Define instrumentation and data-acquisition requirements with test engineers and product development teams.
• Select, install, commission, and protect sensors, transducers, signal-conditioning equipment, cabling, and related hardware on machines, components, and test rigs.
• Configure and verify data-acquisition systems for pressure, temperature, force, strain, displacement, acceleration, speed, torque, flow, and electrical measurements.
• Verify sensor scaling, channel configuration, sample rates, calibration data, and measurement quality; diagnose wiring, communication, and acquisition issues during testing.
• Maintain instrumentation equipment, calibration records, configuration data, availability, condition, and obsolescence information.
• Support ISO/IEC 17025 laboratory quality activities, including test-method control, measurement uncertainty, metrological traceability, corrective actions, and instrumentation standardisation.

Requirements

• Applied technical knowledge of instrumentation, electrical/electronic engineering, or a related discipline.
• Strong working knowledge of instrumentation, sensors, data-acquisition systems, measurement-system installation, configuration, and verification.
• Experience with data-acquisition and analysis platforms such as Dewesoft, HBK, National Instruments, Vector, ETAS, or similar systems.
• Ability to troubleshoot instrumentation, wiring, communication, and data-acquisition problems systematically.
• Working understanding of product testing, calibration, measurement traceability, and equipment assurance.
• Awareness of CAN-based vehicle communications, machine-network data acquisition, or strain-gauge measurement techniques.
