Community Engagement Manager, Data Centers (Virginia & West Virginia)

Location: Remote-friendly, United States; must be based in Virginia or West Virginia or willing to relocate to one of them. Regular travel across Virginia and West Virginia is required, up to 50% of the time. Staff are expected to be in an office at least 25% of the time.

What you will do

• Build sustained relationships with local and state officials, community organizations, civic leaders, educational institutions, and workforce partners.
• Develop community engagement strategies covering data center site selection, pre-development, construction, and long-term operations.
• Host education and listening sessions, represent Anthropic at public forums and hearings, and build coalitions around local infrastructure projects.
• Monitor community sentiment and local political dynamics, advising Policy, Infrastructure, Real Estate, Energy, Sustainability, and Communications teams.
• Coordinate charitable giving, community investment, economic development commitments, and nonprofit partnerships.
• Build a repeatable community engagement playbook as Anthropic expands its data center footprint.

Requirements

• Experience in community affairs, public affairs, economic development, government relations, local or state government, or a related field.
• Direct experience engaging local governments and diverse stakeholders on large infrastructure, construction, energy, or technology projects.
• Strong relationship-building, coalition-building, written communication, verbal communication, and public speaking skills.
• Ability to explain complex operational plans in clear language and manage multiple engagements across different markets.
• Must be based in Virginia or West Virginia or willing to relocate to one of these states, with regular travel across both states.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education, training, and experience in a relevant field.

Nice to have

• 7+ years of community engagement experience involving data centers, utilities, energy, large-scale industrial infrastructure, or local government.
• Knowledge of land use, zoning, permitting, rezoning, and special use permit hearings in Virginia.
• Experience addressing community concerns about data center siting, including noise, transmission lines, water, and proximity to residential areas.
• Experience with corporate social responsibility programs and economic development, workforce, or civic organizations.
• Experience collaborating with real estate, legal, communications, and policy teams.
