Senior Product Engineer (Backend Leaning, AI)

A fast-growing, well-funded Berlin-based startup is rebuilding B2B procurement through AI, connecting global suppliers with European customers across sourcing, pricing, sales, logistics, credit, and financing.

What you will do

• Own business problems end to end, from user discovery and product definition through production delivery.
• Build backend services for pricing, inventory, orders, and integrations with suppliers, customers, and logistics partners.
• Build AI agents, tools, and APIs with idempotency, validation, audit trails, and human review safeguards.
• Design interfaces for commercial teams to review, correct, and approve agent proposals.
• Transform price lists, datasheets, and stock feeds into reliable business data; evaluate and monitor LLM workflows in production.
• Lead technical decisions, document trade-offs, mentor engineers, and contribute to hiring.

Requirements

• 5+ years building and operating production software with real users and business consequences.
• Strong production-scale backend skills in Java or a comparable language, with willingness to work with Java and Spring Boot.
• Experience designing distributed, event-driven systems with strong attention to data correctness and failure modes.
• Solid PostgreSQL and hands-on AWS experience.
• Ability to deliver across the stack, including TypeScript and React when required.
• Strong product sense, business-problem-solving ability, sound engineering judgment about LLMs and agents, and comfort in a fast-changing environment.

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience building with LLMs or AI agents.
• Experience in trading, marketplaces, supply chain, fintech, or another domain where data errors have significant financial impact.
