Backend Engineer (Fintech)

Location: Germany, hybrid; at least 4 days per month on-site in the Berlin office. Remote work from anywhere in Germany is available within the hybrid model. Remote work from anywhere in the EU is available for up to 10 consecutive days at a time and up to 60 days per year as a workation benefit.

What you will do

• Design, build, and operate backend services and architecture for a brokerage API platform.
• Develop reliable, scalable REST APIs and core platform systems for Customer Lifecycle, Investing, or Banking processes.
• Deliver features independently from implementation through production in a cross-functional product team.
• Make technical decisions based on product context and customer needs.
• Improve system reliability, maintainability, scalability, and production readiness.
• Contribute to technical decisions, code reviews, knowledge sharing, and mentorship.

Requirements

• Experience writing well-structured, maintainable, and well-tested code in a modern programming language such as Python, Go, Java, Ruby, JavaScript, or TypeScript.
• Experience designing highly scalable architectures and reliable REST APIs.
• Experience with cloud environments such as AWS, GCP, or Azure and related architectural patterns.
• Understanding of relational or document-based databases, including PostgreSQL or MySQL.
• Experience designing, building, and operating reliable and scalable backend systems in a cross-functional team.
• Ability to solve complex technical problems, evaluate solutions in depth, take ownership, and learn new technologies.

Nice to have

• Previous experience in fintech or financial services.
• Experience working in a startup or lean organization.
