Tech Lead (AI)

Location: Bristol, UK; 3 days a week in the office with flexible hours. Part-time, job-share, full-time, flexible hours, working from home, and compressed hours may be available.

What you will do

• Lead a small team of associate software engineers and set clear expectations for quality, ownership, and delivery.
• Remain hands-on in designing, developing, and delivering production software.
• Set technical direction and make pragmatic architectural decisions balancing speed, scalability, and maintainability.
• Move ideas through experimentation into working products while identifying blockers and maintaining delivery momentum.
• Coach, mentor, and challenge engineers while building accountability and improving technical capability.
• Partner with product, business, and technical stakeholders to prioritise problems and drive continuous improvement in engineering practices and tooling.

Requirements

• Strong experience in software engineering or software development, with hands-on coding and production delivery experience.
• Experience in a fast-paced start-up, scale-up, fintech, or technology-led environment.
• Experience leading engineering projects, mentoring developers, or managing a small technical team.
• Ability to make technical decisions with incomplete requirements and adapt to changing priorities and technologies.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Interest in AI, Generative AI, Large Language Models, and emerging technologies.

Nice to have

• Experience with automation, workflow technology, cloud platforms, or modern Agile engineering environments.
