Data Engineering Manager (Fintech)

Location: Hybrid role based at the Bristol head office (BS1 5HL), with a mix of office and home working

What you will do

• Lead, hire, coach, and develop a team of data engineers while setting clear expectations for quality and ownership.
• Own end-to-end delivery of data pipelines, transformations, platform components, and production operations.
• Ensure pipelines are idempotent, tested, observable, documented, auditable, recoverable, and secure by default.
• Run monitoring, incident response, root-cause analysis, and continuous operational improvement.
• Define engineering standards covering coding conventions, testing, CI/CD, code review, documentation, and technical debt management.
• Optimise infrastructure cost and performance while partnering with Data Product Managers and the Principal Data Modeller on priorities and standards.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in data engineering or software engineering, including 2–3 years in people management.
• Experience delivering and operating production data platforms and pipelines at scale.
• Hands-on experience with modern cloud data platforms such as Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift.
• Experience with orchestration tools such as Airflow or Dagster, CI/CD, and automated deployment.
• Strong operational mindset covering reliability, monitoring, incident response, cost management, and stakeholder trade-offs.
• Experience building high-performing engineering teams and working in regulated financial services, insurance, or banking environments.

Nice to have

• Experience with dbt, streaming or event-driven architectures, semantic or metrics layers, and feature engineering patterns.
• Experience optimising platform costs and using data governance tools such as catalogues, lineage tools, or quality frameworks.
• Experience supporting AI/ML feature pipelines or model-serving infrastructure.
