Mechanical Design Engineer (Hardware)

What you will do

• Support new and existing media-handling products from a mechanical engineering perspective.
• Design, evaluate, and test mechanisms used in self-service products such as ATMs.
• Assess technologies and provide recommendations supported by engineering analysis.
• Work with tooling suppliers and manufacturers on cost-effective designs, supplier engagement, and change management.
• Conduct design reviews, stress and tolerance analysis, testing, and problem correction.
• Release design changes and supporting documentation through the approved engineering system.

Requirements

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering; an Honours 2:1 or better is preferred.
• At least 3 years of relevant postgraduate experience in mechanical design.
• Working knowledge of mechanical design principles, drive systems, plastic moulding, sheet-metal fabrication, parts manufacture, and tooling.
• Practical CAD experience with Creo/ProE or SolidWorks, including drawing, dimensioning, and tolerancing.
• Experience with stress and tolerance analysis, simulation/FEA, and mechanism design.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, communicate clearly, maintain high standards, and travel globally to customer sites when required.

Nice to have

• Experience with assemblies containing PCBs and harnesses.
• Experience with rapid prototyping technologies.
• Experience designing high-speed document feeding, transport, sorting, and stacking mechanisms.
• Knowledge of autonomous, fault-tolerant systems operating under varying climatic conditions.
