Team Lead, Engineering (AI)

Location: Hybrid role based in Brooklyn, NY, USA; candidates must be within commuting distance of the Williamsburg, Brooklyn office.

Salary: $230,000–$270,000 annual base salary, plus potential equity and bonus or variable compensation.

What you will do

• Lead a team of 3–4 engineers while remaining hands-on with production engineering.
• Own team architecture, technical quality standards, code review, security, and system reliability.
• Work closely with product, design, and customers to define problems, prioritize work, and deliver incremental releases.
• Build AI-native products using LLMs, agents, evaluations, and retrieval, and establish standards for verifying AI-assisted code.
• Manage planning, milestones, backlog sequencing, delivery metrics, incident response, operational debt, and system costs.
• Coach engineers, provide feedback, participate in interviews, and demonstrate products to customers and company leadership.

Requirements

• Professional experience building backend or data-driven software in demanding environments.
• Strong hands-on engineering skills, technical judgment, and experience deploying production code to cloud environments.
• Experience coaching, mentoring, or leading engineers on complex projects.
• Experience translating customer problems into scoped, shipped products and incremental releases from prototype to production.
• Experience with sprint planning, delivery management, incidents, on-call responsibilities, and system costs.
• Production experience with LLMs, agents, evaluations, or retrieval, along with strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice to have

• Direct people-management experience.
• Experience using DORA or SPACE engineering metrics.
• Background in trade, supply chain, compliance, or working with government customers.
