Staff Forward Deployed Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid in New York City, San Francisco, or Seattle; staff are expected to be in an Anthropic office at least 25% of the time and travel to customer sites approximately 25% of the time.

Annual salary: $280,000–$320,000 USD

What you will do

• Own technical strategy for key enterprise accounts or verticals in partnership with account and product teams.
• Guide architecture and design decisions across multiple concurrent AI application and agent workstreams.
• Lead discovery, advisory, architecture-review, and partner-delivered engagements from scope definition through production delivery.
• Build production applications and agent components with Claude inside customer systems, then hand over systems customers can operate.
• Represent Anthropic with senior technical and business stakeholders, including VP and C-level audiences, while managing security and procurement gates.
• Identify repeatable deployment patterns, contribute insights to Product and Engineering, and develop long-term customer relationships.

Requirements

• Deep system design and problem decomposition skills, including secure production architecture for complex enterprise environments.
• Experience in a senior technical, customer-facing role such as Forward Deployed Engineer, Tech Lead, technical founder, or a comparable consulting or product position.
• Extensive experience building and operating production systems, with hands-on experience using LLMs and agents.
• Strong programming skills in Python and experience shipping production applications; additional languages such as TypeScript or Java are useful for the role.
• Experience influencing senior technical and business stakeholders, leading architecture and advisory engagements, and making decisions under ambiguity.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education, training, or professional experience in a relevant field.

Nice to have

• Background in financial services, healthcare, life sciences, or another enterprise vertical.
• Experience with TypeScript, Java, or other additional programming languages.
