Engineering Manager (AI)

Location: Remote within hirify.global’s states of operation in the United States; eligible states include Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin. Fully remote work is supported, with optional onsite work at the Palo Alto headquarters for select roles.

Annual base salary: $187,150–$206,850 for Tier 3, $201,400–$222,600 for Tier 2, or $234,650–$259,350 for Tier 1, depending on location.

What you will do

• Define the AI technical strategy and roadmap for customer-facing voice, email, chat, and SMS agents.
• Design reliable agent architectures covering orchestration, tool use, guardrails, fallback handling, and production scalability.
• Write code, review pull requests, prototype agent capabilities, and debug production issues.
• Partner with Product, Customer Experience, and Operations to identify and ship AI-driven workflow improvements.
• Establish performance metrics and use data to prioritize roadmap decisions.
• Lead and grow a small senior engineering team while setting technical direction and removing blockers.

Requirements

• 7+ years of software engineering experience building and operating production systems, including 2+ years leading or managing engineering teams.
• Experience developing and shipping LLM-powered, conversational AI, or agentic systems in real-world environments.
• Hands-on experience with prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, tool usage, and orchestration frameworks.
• Strong systems design and technical leadership skills, including architecture decisions, trade-off evaluation, reliability, and observability.
• Experience delivering customer-facing products end-to-end and partnering with Product, Operations, and Customer Experience stakeholders.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with telephony, messaging APIs, or chat platforms at scale.
• Experience with AI/ML evaluation, quality instrumentation, drift detection, and continuous improvement.
• Experience evaluating third-party vendors and making build-versus-buy decisions.
