Engineering Manager (AI)

Location: San Francisco, United States; on-site

Salary: $280,000–$430,000 annually plus equity

What you will do

• Build, lead, hire, coach, and develop a high-performing engineering team.
• Own the technical strategy and roadmap for the AI agent orchestration engine.
• Drive architecture for systems coordinating complex reasoning, workflows, tool calls, and action flows at scale.
• Establish reliability, testing, observability, and incident-learning standards across the orchestration stack.
• Create safety guardrails and evaluation frameworks that support fast iteration and production rollouts.
• Partner with Product, Research, Infrastructure, and Agent Engineering on requirements, trade-offs, and multi-quarter initiatives.

Requirements

• 2+ years of engineering management experience leading high-performing teams in fast-moving environments.
• Strong technical depth and an individual-contributor foundation for guiding architecture, debugging complex failures, and making trade-offs.
• Experience building distributed systems, execution engines, real-time platforms, or other high-scale systems where correctness and reliability matter.
• Experience delivering multi-quarter projects through ambiguity and creating clarity for teams and stakeholders.
• Strong focus on engineering craft, testing strategy, observability, operational excellence, and incident learning.
• Clear communication and effective collaboration across Product, Research, and Infrastructure.

Nice to have

• Experience with agent frameworks, runtimes, orchestration logic, or tool-use systems.
• Experience with evaluation, experimentation, or model-quality measurement systems.
• Experience building guardrails for safety-critical or highly reliable systems.
