Controller (AI)

Location: Menlo Park, California; on-site

Salary: $250,000–$300,000 base salary per year, plus equity

Periodic Labs is an AI and physical sciences company developing advanced models to accelerate breakthroughs in materials, energy, and scientific research.

What you will do

• Own monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including the general ledger, consolidations, reconciliations, accruals, journal entries, and GAAP financial statements.
• Manage accounting operations across procurement, vendor management, employee expenses, revenue, and capital expenditures.
• Build reporting processes covering financial performance, cash flow, working capital, forecasts, runway analysis, board materials, and investor reporting.
• Develop accounting policies for leases, fixed assets, stock-based compensation, R&D arrangements, capitalization, foreign currency, and complex commercial agreements.
• Oversee accounting for U.S. and international entities, including intercompany activity, statutory reporting, payroll obligations, and U.K., Canadian, and U.S. compliance.
• Enhance NetSuite and its integrations while partnering with Legal, People, Operations, Lab Operations, technical teams, auditors, and tax advisors.

Requirements

• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience with ownership of an end-to-end accounting function.
• Active CPA license and strong command of U.S. GAAP.
• Experience leading an accounting team and building accounting functions, processes, and internal controls.
• Hands-on experience with financial close, financial-statement preparation, balance-sheet reconciliations, audit support, and controls.
• Strong NetSuite experience and familiarity with Ramp and Rippling.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

Nice to have

• Public-accounting experience at a Big Four or nationally recognized audit firm.
• Experience with laboratories, hardware, robotics, manufacturing, infrastructure, cloud-compute commitments, construction projects, or leasehold improvements.
• Multi-entity and international accounting experience involving the U.K. or Canada.
• Knowledge of ASC 842, ASC 718, ASC 606, R&D arrangements, equity financings, and complex contracts.
• Experience building an AI-native accounting function and automating accounting processes.
