Staff Engineer, Web Operations

Location: Hybrid, onsite three days per week from offices in San Mateo, California; Bellevue, Washington; or Boston, Massachusetts, United States.

Annual base salary: $192,000–$237,000, plus eligibility for a target bonus.

What you will do

• Set full-stack architectural direction across web applications, backend services, CMS platforms, and cloud infrastructure.
• Investigate ambitious ideas, build proof-of-concepts, and turn successful prototypes into reliable production systems.
• Identify systemic bottlenecks and improve platform performance, reliability, maintainability, and delivery capabilities.
• Develop reusable modules, internal tools, and reference implementations for multiple engineering teams.
• Coach engineers and technical leads through pairing, design reviews, training, and architectural decisions.
• Define engineering standards and AI-assisted workflows while communicating technical priorities, risks, costs, and trade-offs to senior leaders.

Requirements

• Experience designing and evolving systems used by multiple teams, including distributed systems, service boundaries, data flow, caching, and failure handling.
• Deep JavaScript and TypeScript expertise with strong experience in React and Next.js.
• Hands-on experience with Node.js, secure APIs, backend services, asynchronous processing, HTML, CSS, DOM, Web APIs, and responsive layouts.
• Experience with headless CMS architecture, content modeling, and integrations such as Contentful, Contentstack, or WordPress.
• Expertise with AWS, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, observability, accessibility, testing, and production reliability.
• Extensive experience with coding agents, LLM APIs, automated engineering workflows, technical communication, and advising senior leaders up to the C-suite.
