Editorial Researcher (AI/Technology)

Location: Must reside in the San Francisco Bay Area; hybrid work from the Dogpatch offices in San Francisco at least three days per week, with additional in-office days required for filming. Some projects may require travel and weekend work.

Salary: $180,000–$200,000 per year, depending on skills and experience.

What you will do

• Research, write, and edit written editorial content.
• Develop ideas and research for videos, podcasts, interviews, and other media projects.
• Work with YC partners, founders, and the Media team to turn ideas into content.
• Analyze data to identify trends about startups, technology, founders, and new products.
• Find emerging people, projects, papers, companies, and ideas for potential coverage.
• Experiment with editorial formats and explain complex technical subjects clearly and accurately.

Requirements

• Deep curiosity about technology and familiarity with startups, AI, engineering, and internet culture.
• Excellent writing and editing skills, including the ability to simplify complex topics without making them simplistic.
• Enough technical understanding to communicate with engineers and researchers.
• Strong editorial judgment and the ability to identify genuinely interesting subjects.
• Comfort working across written, video, podcast, chart, and experimental formats.
• Must reside in the San Francisco Bay Area and be able to work from the San Francisco office at least three days per week.

Nice to have

• Background in engineering, developer relations, technical journalism, data journalism, research, think tanks, or founding a company.
• Experience reading research papers, analyzing datasets, and interviewing experts.
