Member of Editorial Staff, Economics & Policy (AI Policy)

Location: Remote-friendly, with at least 25% office attendance required in San Francisco, California; travel is required.

Annual salary: $265,000–$295,000 USD

What you will do

• Write and edit economic research publications, including the Anthropic Economic Index and reports on AI, work, productivity, and growth.
• Produce research reports, long-form essays, op-eds, policy briefs, and blog posts on the economics and policy of AI.
• Translate complex findings from economists and researchers into rigorous, accessible public-facing content.
• Collaborate with economics researchers, the Policy team, research scientists, external economists, and policy experts.
• Engage with economists, policymakers, think tanks, academics, and media to advance discussions about AI policy and economics.

Requirements

• Demonstrated ability to write compellingly about complex economic and policy topics for broad audiences.
• A published body of long-form writing on economics, policy, or technology.
• Quantitative literacy and the ability to read and explain an economics working paper.
• Experience working closely with experts and strengthening the clarity and defensibility of their arguments.
• Comfort engaging in policy debates with intellectual rigor and nuance.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education, training, and experience in a relevant field.

Nice to have

• Professional experience in economic research or analysis, or editing data-heavy research publications.
• Experience with policymaking institutions, Washington policy, AI policy, or technology policy.
• Published work on economic growth, labor economics, innovation economics, progress studies, regulatory policy, competition policy, or emerging-technology economics.
• A personally built audience and a track record of influencing policy debates through writing and public engagement.
