What you will do

• Complete supervised laboratory research tasks and produce consistent, high-quality data.
• Support development and characterization of next-generation vaccines targeting respiratory pathogens such as influenza, RSV, hMPV, and COVID.
• Assemble, purify, and characterize DNA using enzymatic reactions, electrophoresis, restriction digestion, Gibson assembly, Golden Gate assembly, HiFi DNA assembly, PCR, sequencing, and RT-PCR.
• Perform DNA/RNA extraction, transformation, UV/Vis spectrophotometry, and functional activity assays.
• Learn automated systems for producing expression plasmids and proteins.
• Maintain experiment notebooks, support equipment and supply management, attend group meetings, and present data.

Requirements

• Current PhD, MS, or BS student in life sciences, molecular biology, genetics, microbiology, or biochemistry.
• Permanent authorization to work in the United States without current or future employment-visa sponsorship is required.
• Enrollment at an accredited college or university throughout the co-op.
• Ability to relocate to the Waltham office and work onsite 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, for the full six-month duration.
• Ability to perform experiments from verbal or written instructions and learn new research procedures.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work independently and as part of a supervised research team.

Nice to have

• Experience with molecular cloning, cell culture, aseptic technique, DNA/RNA techniques, PCR, or bacterial expression.
• Experience with laboratory automation systems or automation workflows.
• Scripting experience with Java, C++, or Python.
• Data visualization experience with Tableau or Spotfire.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
