Complex Claims Specialist-MPL (Miscellaneous Professional Liability)

Location: United States; Atlanta, GA; Boston, MA; Chicago, IL; Manhattan, NY; or West Hartford, CT. Primarily hybrid with in-office attendance at least two days per week for candidates located near an office; qualified remote candidates may also be considered.

Salary: $125,000–$155,000 per year, plus performance-based bonus.

What you will do

• Handle and resolve complex mid- to high-severity Miscellaneous Professional Liability claims from inception through resolution.
• Manage all phases of claims litigation and draft complex coverage letters, including reservation-of-rights and denial letters.
• Review claim documentation and legal filings while coordinating with outside experts, legal counsel, underwriting, insureds, and brokers.
• Lead defense strategies and apply investigation, negotiation, mediation, arbitration, and other alternative dispute resolution techniques.
• Identify emerging exposures, claims trends, and suspected fraudulent claims, coordinating with the special investigations unit.
• Mentor claims team members and maintain accurate claim files in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

• 6+ years of Professional Liability and/or Specialty/Financial Lines claims-handling experience.
• Bachelor’s degree required; a JD from an ABA-accredited law school is preferred and may supplement claims-handling experience.
• Advanced knowledge of insurance coverage, litigation processes, negotiation, and complex claims analysis.
• Proven ability to investigate claims, lead litigation, negotiate outcomes, and work with minimal supervision.
• Experience mentoring and training claims examiners, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Adjuster licensing required within 90 days of employment.

• Experience attending or leading mediations, arbitrations, and trials.
