Senior Software Engineer (Automotive Systems Integration)

Location: Dearborn, Michigan, United States. Hybrid arrangement with 4–5 days per week in the office.

What you will do

• Design and develop scalable cloud-native and desktop applications for vehicle configuration and integration workflows.
• Architect microservices, REST APIs, reusable frameworks, and services using Java, Spring Boot, Node.js, React, and PostgreSQL.
• Integrate CAN, CAN FD, J1939, LIN, and Automotive Ethernet communication technologies with telematics and connected vehicle systems.
• Translate vehicle capabilities, engineering requirements, signal definitions, and architecture changes into software implementations and configuration logic.
• Design AI-enabled capabilities for configuration authoring, validation, and diagnostics.
• Lead observability, performance engineering, automated testing, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, DevSecOps, and secure software development practices while mentoring engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and 7+ years of enterprise software engineering experience.
• 5–7 years of experience with Java and Spring Boot, plus 3–5 years with Node.js, TypeScript, React, and PostgreSQL.
• 3–5 years of embedded software development and testing experience in the automotive industry.
• Experience with cloud technologies, Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and distributed or event-driven systems.
• Strong experience with REST API design, OpenAPI, GraphQL, integration patterns, and automotive communication networks.
• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams and suppliers, lead technical discussions, solve complex problems, and mentor engineers.

Nice to have

• Experience with fleet solutions, commercial vehicles, upfitter integration, aftermarket equipment, or heavy-duty vehicle communication standards.
• Knowledge of OBD-II, diagnostic trouble codes, vehicle data platforms, AUTOSAR, automotive cybersecurity, and functional safety.
• Experience with analytics, visualization, vehicle diagnostic, and data acquisition platforms.
• Experience in Agile product development and influencing engineering direction.
