Public Health Data Analyst (AI/ML)

Location: United States citizenship or the ability to obtain a US Government security clearance (Public Trust 5) is required

What you will do

• Provide scientific, epidemiologic, statistical, and advanced data analytic support for public health surveillance, research, and response activities.
• Advise scientists and program staff on CDC Data Hub datasets, including data structure, limitations, fitness for use, analytic methods, and interpretation.
• Develop study questions, study designs, analytic plans, and methodological approaches for large and complex healthcare and public health datasets.
• Conduct AI/ML and advanced statistical analyses, including data preparation, feature engineering, model development, validation, performance evaluation, and interpretation.
• Develop and disseminate analytic reports, technical briefs, methodological documentation, presentations, white papers, and scientific products.
• Build reusable and reproducible workflows across Palantir Foundry, Databricks, and other cloud-based analytic environments.

Requirements

• Graduate degree in data science, epidemiology, biostatistics, public health, or another quantitative field, with 5+ years of related experience.
• Experience analyzing large healthcare or public health datasets, including electronic health records, claims, laboratory, pharmacy, hospital, survey, or surveillance data.
• Experience with machine learning, AI, advanced statistical modeling, study design, analytic planning, validation, and interpretation.
• Programming experience with Python, R, SQL, SAS, Spark, and related tools, including quality control, validation, documentation, and reproducible workflows.
• Experience with Git/GitHub or other version-controlled repositories and familiarity with healthcare coding and terminology systems.
• Must be a US citizen or able to obtain and maintain a US Government Public Trust 5 security clearance.

Nice to have

• Experience supporting HHS, CDC, or another federal public health organization.
• Hands-on experience with Palantir Foundry, Databricks, Microsoft Azure, Posit Workbench, Truveta Studio, or similar platforms.
• Experience with causal inference, Bayesian methods, data mining, feature engineering, natural language processing, or emerging analytic methods.
• Experience serving as a dataset or data-asset subject matter expert.
