Virtualisation Engineer (VMware)

Location: Manchester, Greater Manchester, United Kingdom; Oxford Road

Salary: £37,694–£46,049 per annum, depending on experience

What you will do

• Define, deliver, and support enterprise infrastructure and hybrid platforms in complex environments.
• Design and operate VMware-based virtualisation with opportunities to deliver OpenStack infrastructure.
• Develop infrastructure automation and self-service infrastructure for research teams.
• Collaborate with engineers, developers, architects, UX designers, analysts, product owners, and research colleagues.
• Support implementations and accelerate the transition of research projects from ideation to active research.

Requirements

• Strong experience supporting VMware or OpenStack and hybrid infrastructure environments.
• Administration and support experience with Linux and Windows Server.
• Scripting skills using PowerShell, Python, or Bash.
• Experience with infrastructure automation and Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, OpenTofu, and Ansible.
• Knowledge of enterprise virtualisation, storage, networking, platform security, and compliance frameworks.
• Strong communication, stakeholder engagement, technical documentation, and code repository management skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with monitoring and logging platforms such as Zabbix and Grafana.
• Experience integrating infrastructure platforms with ServiceNow or similar ITSM tools.
• Familiarity with Atlassian products such as Jira and Confluence.
• Strong collaborative working and stakeholder management skills.
