Director of Engineering (AI)

Location: Remote, North America

Salary: $250,000–$300,000 per year plus significant early-stage equity

A fast-growing B2B SaaS company modernizing the building-supply industry through digital storefronts, customer portals, accounts receivable automation, online payments, and ERP integrations.

What you will do

• Lead, coach, and develop a distributed engineering organization of 15+ engineers across frontend, backend, and infrastructure.
• Scale the organization to 20+ engineers and establish clear standards for ownership, accountability, technical quality, and delivery.
• Partner with the CTO, Product, and Design to execute the engineering roadmap and operationalize AI capabilities.
• Champion AI-assisted development through tools such as Claude, automated code review, AI-powered QA, and monitoring agents.
• Strengthen CI/CD, automated testing, observability, monitoring, security, and high-availability practices.
• Provide technical leadership for ERP integrations, payment systems, transactional data, document parsing, OCR, NLP, and AI-assisted order entry.

Requirements

• 7+ years of engineering leadership experience, including 3+ years managing remote or distributed teams.
• Experience leading engineering organizations in a high-growth B2B SaaS environment and scaling teams and processes.
• Strong technical background with React, TypeScript, Node.js, Express, PostgreSQL, AWS, GCP, and Docker.
• Experience with integrations, APIs, two-way data synchronization, ERP platforms, or complex legacy and on-premise systems.
• Hands-on understanding of software architecture, reliability, security, data integrity, and high-volume transactional applications.
• Pragmatic leadership style with experience collaborating across Product, Design, Engineering, and the CTO organization.

Nice to have

• Experience with fintech, payments, invoicing, accounts receivable, financial systems, or B2B e-commerce.
• Background in construction technology, ConTech, PropTech, building materials, or supply-chain technology.
• Experience taking customer-facing AI products from development into production.
