Senior Backend Software Engineer (Fintech)

Location: Hybrid in London, Shoreditch, with 3 days in the office and 2 days working from home. Office days are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.

Salary: £75,000–£115,000 base salary, plus bonus.

What you will do

• Lead complex features from initial design and development through post-production validation.
• Design and maintain scalable backend systems for an investment platform used by thousands of customers.
• Support team growth through technical workshops, pair programming, mentorship, and thoughtful delegation.
• Define and uphold engineering standards for code reviews, development practices, and internal tools.
• Act as a senior escalation point for high-priority incidents and participate in the on-call rotation.
• Conduct technical interviews and contribute to hiring engineering talent.

Requirements

• Senior-level experience solving complex and ambiguous technical problems.
• Strong ability to design scalable systems, write clean code, and make sound design decisions.
• Interest in investments and fintech.
• Willingness to work primarily with TypeScript, Node, PostgreSQL, and GCP.
• Ability to contribute to technical standards, mentor engineers, and collaborate on team decisions.
• Availability to work in the hybrid London office model, with 3 required office days per week.

• Experience with financial services or investment products.
• Experience improving engineering processes and tools based on industry trends.
