Legal Counsel (AI)

Location: San Francisco, CA, United States; hybrid with a minimum of 3 days in the office per week

Salary: $135,000–$200,000 base salary per year, plus performance bonus and equity

What you will do

• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts for U.S. and EU markets, including service agreements, vendor and customer contracts, NDAs, and partnership agreements.
• Advise commercial, product, and operations teams on legal risks and practical, business-focused solutions.
• Manage dispute resolution matters across U.S. and EU jurisdictions, including pre-litigation assessment, evidence gathering, settlement negotiations, and outside counsel coordination.
• Benchmark contract standards and legal processes, identify gaps, and improve templates, review turnaround, and risk coverage.
• Coordinate cross-border matters across U.S., EU, and Asia time zones, including evening availability when needed.

Requirements

• 3–5 years of experience in a U.S.-based law firm or in-house legal role handling U.S. and cross-border commercial matters.
• Independent experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts through signature.
• Experience supporting dispute resolution matters and coordinating with litigation or intellectual property counsel.
• Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction; California bar admission is preferred.
• Ability to own matters independently across U.S., EU, and Asia stakeholders and manage work across a 12+ hour time difference.
• Comfort using AI-assisted legal tools, including contract review platforms, legal research tools, and LLM-based drafting assistants.

Nice to have

• California bar admission and experience advising technology, SaaS, AI, hardware, or cross-border consumer products companies.
• Experience with patents, trademarks, trade secrets, or cross-border regulatory compliance.
• In-house experience at a globally operating technology company or a Chinese company with significant U.S. or EU operations.
• Working-level speaking proficiency in Mandarin.
