Founding Data Scientist (Growth)

Location: Foster City, California, United States; hybrid with in-office work required on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday

Salary: $250K–$327K annually, plus equity

What you will do

• Own data science for growth areas across acquisition, activation, and recommender systems.
• Design experiments, metrics, guardrails, and statistical checks for high-traffic product surfaces.
• Apply variance reduction, sequential testing, and short-term proxy metrics to support fast and reliable decisions.
• Use quasi-experimental methods for pricing changes and regional launches when randomization is not feasible.
• Define personalization and recommendation evaluation, including offline and online measurement of incremental lift.
• Model freemium product economics, develop behavioral and content-based segmentation, and partner with Data Engineering on metrics and experimentation tooling.

Requirements

• 6+ years of data science experience, including significant growth or experimentation work for high-scale prosumer, product-led growth, or self-serve products.
• Experience building metrics, datasets, and experimentation practices at a fast-growing startup with limited existing infrastructure.
• Deep expertise in experimental design and statistical inference, including decisions based on short readout windows and delayed outcomes.
• Experience establishing experimentation standards or platforms adopted by multiple teams.
• Expert SQL and Python skills.
• Experience influencing senior Product and Engineering leaders and using AI tools extensively in daily work.

Nice to have

• Experience building datasets in dbt.
• Pricing, packaging, or monetization analysis for usage- or credit-based products.
• International or mobile growth experience.
• MS or PhD in statistics, economics, computer science, or another quantitative field.
• Experience with multi-armed bandits, adaptive experimentation, developer tools, AI products, or creator platforms.
