Interconnection Customer Project Development, Engineer 3 (Substation Engineering)

Location: Hybrid role based in Pomona, California; employees are generally required to work and reside in California. The position includes up to 20% travel and field work throughout the service territory.

What you will do

• Develop substation scopes and coordinate cost and schedule estimates for generation and large customer/load interconnections above 50 kV.
• Serve as the central engineering contact during facility studies and align engineering, planning, project management, environmental, real properties, protection, telecom, and power system controls stakeholders.
• Sponsor customer projects through execution and present connection requirements, estimates, and schedules to customers.
• Resolve complex technical and cross-functional engineering problems while maintaining design-basis documentation.
• Conduct risk assessments, implement mitigation strategies, and support safety, reliability, environmental, health, and regulatory compliance.
• Lead employees and contractors, provide technical guidance to junior engineers, and support audits, inspections, and training.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or in a scientific, technical, or mathematics field.
• At least five years of engineering experience in operations, production, construction, or maintenance environments.
• Valid Class C driver’s license.
• Experience with substation engineering and design, including project scope, cost, and schedule development.
• Knowledge of generation interconnections, large customer load interconnections, or utility planning processes such as WDAT, TOT, or Rule 21.
• Must generally work and reside in California; the role is hybrid with reporting to an SCE facility on set days.
