Protein/Enzyme Purification Chemist

Annual base salary: $71,000–$103,700, plus bonus eligibility.

What you will do

• Develop robust, scalable protein purification processes suitable for transfer to manufacturing.
• Purify proteins using column chromatography and filtration techniques.
• Perform functional and physical assays to evaluate protein purity, stability, and activity.
• Develop, generate, and verify protein buffer systems and optimize process designs through stress testing.
• Document experiments, curate samples, and prepare process development reports.
• Troubleshoot unexpected results and present analyses to team leaders to support design decisions and process improvements.

Requirements

• BS with 3–5 years of post-baccalaureate laboratory experience, or relevant post-M.S. laboratory experience; industrial experience is preferred.
• Degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology, chemistry, chemical engineering, biomedical engineering, or a related field.
• Experience analyzing proteins and nucleic acids using SDS-PAGE, agarose gel electrophoresis, UV/Vis spectroscopy, fluorescence-based activity assays, or quantitative methods.
• Experience performing PCR assays with fluorescent intercalating dyes or hydrolysis probes.
• Familiarity with IMAC, affinity, ion-exchange, hydrophobic-interaction, or size-exclusion chromatography.
• Experience with protein buffer formulation and the chemical properties of salts, chelators, biological buffers, and reducing agents.

Nice to have

• Experience with specification setting, method development and transfer, and formal risk assessments.
• Working knowledge of SAP, Oracle, Agile, Microsoft Office, and JMP.
• Industrial experience in protein biochemistry, assays, or related laboratory work.
