Scientist, Analytical Development (mRNA)

Location: Norwood, Massachusetts, United States; 100% onsite

Salary: $109,200–$174,600 per year, with potential bonus, incentive compensation, or equity eligibility.

What you will do

• Design, develop, optimize, and execute separation-based analytical methods for early- and clinical-stage products.
• Characterize product quality attributes, impurities, degradation products, identity, and purity using LC/HPLC/UHPLC, LC-MS, capillary electrophoresis, CE-SDS, and related technologies.
• Optimize chromatographic and electrophoretic parameters, sample preparation, detection, data processing, and system-suitability controls.
• Apply risk-based development, structured experimentation, and Design of Experiments to assess robustness and variability.
• Troubleshoot complex analytical results and integrate chromatographic, electrophoretic, mass-spectrometric, and orthogonal data.
• Support platform implementation, method pre-qualification, technical transfer, qualification, validation, documentation, and downstream Quality Control implementation.

Requirements

• Must work 100% onsite in Norwood, Massachusetts, United States.
• Only U.S. persons are eligible because the role involves access to export-controlled information; non-U.S. persons cannot be sponsored for an export control license.
• Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field with 0–2 years of relevant experience; or M.S. with 8+ years; or B.S./B.A. with 10+ years of relevant industry experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with liquid chromatography and at least one additional separation platform, such as LC-MS or capillary electrophoresis.
• Knowledge of separation science, chromatographic and electrophoretic principles, method robustness, analytical controls, and data interpretation.
• Ability to independently plan experiments, troubleshoot technical issues, communicate scientific conclusions, and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.

Nice to have

• Experience with mRNA, nucleic acids, lipid nanoparticles, proteins, vaccines, biologics, conjugates, or other advanced therapeutic modalities.
• Experience with CE-SDS, LC-MS, hyphenated analytical technologies, platform methods, or standardized approaches across multiple products.
• Familiarity with ICH Q14/Q2, analytical target profiles, method lifecycle principles, Empower, Chromeleon, laboratory automation, or automated data processing.
