Scientist, Process Development (Biologics)

Location: Sanford, North Carolina, United States; on-premise work required

Annual base salary: $82,700–$137,900, plus eligibility for a 10% bonus target.

What you will do

• Conduct laboratory- and pilot-scale process characterization and optimization studies.
• Develop and improve manufacturing processes for vaccines and other drug substances.
• Plan laboratory studies, manage short-term work plans, and apply technical expertise to development projects.
• Lead troubleshooting and investigations for clinical and commercial manufacturing processes.
• Coordinate technology transfer activities with project teams, manufacturing sites, and global technical groups.
• Support laboratory safety and Operational Excellence initiatives while mentoring team members.

Requirements

• BA/BS with at least 6 years of experience, or MBA/MS with at least 4 years of experience.
• Degree in chemistry, chemical or biochemical engineering, biochemistry, or a related discipline.
• Practical chemistry knowledge and the ability to work safely with hazardous chemicals in a laboratory.
• Experience with biologics purification, research and development, technical operations, or manufacturing.
• Experience in a research laboratory, traditional bioprocessing, and/or cGMP and statistical methods.
• Permanent U.S. work authorization is required; U.S. work visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Experience with bioconjugation chemistry, normal flow filtration, and tangential flow filtration of proteins or polysaccharides.
• Experience with scale-up, technology transfer, and statistical experimental design.
• Experience using AI tools such as ChatGPT or Microsoft Copilot for problem solving and productivity.
• Strong problem-solving, teamwork, collaboration, mentoring, and guidance skills.
