Senior Software Engineer (Ruby/Rails, MVR)

Location: San Francisco, California, United States; expected to work from a hirify.global office 3+ days per week. Hub locations include Denver, San Francisco, Nashville, and Santiago. A relocation stipend may be available for relocation to a hirify.global hub.

Salary: $185,000–$218,000 USD per year for San Francisco, CA.

What you will do

• Lead the full development lifecycle for complex motor vehicle record screening features, from technical design through release and ongoing operation.
• Define the technical direction and improve the reliability, speed, and extensibility of MVR systems.
• Design, build, and maintain scalable services for ordering, retrieving, processing, normalizing, and delivering motor vehicle records.
• Integrate external data providers and translate provider constraints and customer needs into resilient technical solutions.
• Identify systemic risks, lead incident response and root-cause analysis, and implement durable fixes.
• Mentor engineers and raise standards for code quality, design reviews, and engineering practices.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building scalable backend systems.
• Strong proficiency in a modern programming language, with experience in relational databases, ORMs, and RESTful APIs.
• Experience designing and maintaining distributed systems, microservices, CI/CD, and asynchronous or event-driven architectures.
• Experience integrating external data providers or third-party APIs and handling inconsistent, delayed, or incomplete data.
• Ability to reason about end-to-end platforms, evaluate architectural trade-offs, and communicate technical decisions clearly.
• Ability to work from a hirify.global office at least 3 days per week.
