Commercial Counsel (AI/Life Sciences)

Location: United States; fully remote within the US

Salary: $160,000–$300,000 annual base salary, depending on US geographic pay tier, skills, experience, education, and location.

What you will do

• Own customer deals end to end, including bespoke and standard agreements for life sciences, material science, drug discovery, and computational chemistry.
• Structure, draft, and negotiate research collaborations, sponsored research agreements, industry partnerships, commercial pilots, data licenses, and related customer engagements.
• Negotiate statements of work, channel and technology partnerships, NDAs, vendor agreements, SaaS contracts, and professional services agreements.
• Partner with sales, finance, general managers, scientists, engineers, and R&D leadership to identify legal issues and develop practical business solutions.
• Create playbooks, templates, fallback positions, escalation paths, and self-serve contracting routes that enable the business to scale.
• Use AI tooling to accelerate legal review, triage, and drafting.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor or equivalent law degree and admission to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• 6+ years of substantive commercial transactional experience, including independent ownership of complex technology or science-driven deals.
• Strong knowledge of commercial engagement structures, IP ownership and licensing, confidentiality, data rights, privacy, liability, indemnification, warranties, and termination.
• Experience with life sciences, material science, pharma, biotech, medical devices, drug discovery, computational chemistry, AI-driven discovery, university collaborations, or technology transfer.
• Ability to collaborate across sales, business, science, technical, finance, and R&D teams and translate complex legal concepts into actionable strategies.
• Must be based in the United States; U.S. legal practice admission is required.

Nice to have

• Combination of in-house and Big Law experience.
• Undergraduate or graduate degree in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, computer science, physics, or another STEM field.
• Experience with AI/ML products and related contractual questions.
• Exposure to data licensing, data sharing, and privacy requirements across multiple jurisdictions.
• Experience with or strong interest in AI tooling for legal work.
