Director, Data Science (Machine Learning)

Location: Upstream Building AR Bentonville Home Office, Bentonville, Arkansas, United States

Annual salary: $130,000–$260,000, plus performance-based bonuses and possible stock compensation.

What you will do

• Architect and maintain multi-tier hierarchical forecasting models for ad spend, impression delivery, fill rate, and effective CPMs/CPCs.
• Build prescriptive market-sizing and advertiser-growth models using category benchmarks, retail sales share, organic search volume, and category elasticity.
• Develop machine-learning clustering models to segment brands, sellers, and agencies by operational maturity, bidding behavior, and growth potential.
• Translate complex data into actionable business insights and scalable operational solutions.
• Hire, develop, and lead a high-performing data science team.

Requirements

• Extensive experience with data science, advanced machine-learning algorithms, and analytical modeling.
• Proficiency in Python, SQL, and Java for development, testing, and deployment.
• Strong understanding of data strategy, data quality, and data governance.
• Expertise in data visualization and communicating complex insights.
• Ability to translate business requirements into scalable data solutions.
• Minimum qualification: a bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business Administration, or a related field plus 4 years of relevant experience, or 7 years of relevant experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with data science, machine learning, optimization models, and supervisory responsibilities.
• PhD or advanced education in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Information Technology, Operations Research, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or Econometrics.
• Experience with Python, Spark, Scala, R, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or Torch assessments and open-source frameworks.
• Knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA, assistive technologies, and digital accessibility practices.
