Harris Digital Learning develops eSchoolware, a proprietary learning management system that helps school districts deliver and manage online and hybrid learning for students, teachers, parents, and administrators.

What you will do

• Define the target architecture and sequenced modernization roadmap for a legacy learning management platform.
• Decompose the monolith around functional verticals and establish the identity, organization, enrollment, and REST API foundations.
• Lead modernization of the data layer, including replacing XDoclet-generated Hibernate mappings with JPA and overseeing the Oracle-to-PostgreSQL migration.
• Specify and evaluate deliverables from the modernization partner against written acceptance criteria.
• Establish CI/CD, code review, characterization testing, architecture standards, design patterns, and technical governance.
• Mentor engineers and contractors, recommend the future team structure, and support hiring.

Requirements

• 8+ years of enterprise software development experience, including 5+ years leading engineering teams or owning architecture for significant programs.
• Demonstrated experience modernizing large legacy systems, such as decomposing monoliths, replacing data layers, or migrating unsupported platforms.
• Strong Java and Spring Boot experience with comfort in Angular, React, and TypeScript.
• Deep relational database expertise, including schema design, ORM behavior, and query performance with Oracle and PostgreSQL.
• Experience managing vendor or systems-integrator relationships, including specifications, acceptance criteria, and delivery accountability.
• Cloud-native delivery on Azure or an equivalent platform, infrastructure as code, monitoring, observability, Linux servers, and WCAG 2.2 AA implementation.

Nice to have

• K–12 or higher-education technology experience and familiarity with 1EdTech standards such as LTI 1.3, Common Cartridge, OneRoster, and QTI.
• Oracle-to-PostgreSQL migration, ora2pg, cutover planning, and rollback strategy.
• Experience establishing test coverage and remediating security findings in legacy code.
• Knowledge of FERPA, COPPA, district data-protection agreements, Liferay, gamified learning, or AI-assisted development tools.
