Senior Battery Test and Validation Engineer

Location: Fully on-site at 100 Hooper in San Francisco, California, United States

Salary: $170,000–$195,000 USD annually

What you will do

• Design test protocols, matrices, channel allocations, and timelines for performance and compliance questions.
• Execute and manage concurrent characterization and screening campaigns at cell, module, and pack levels.
• Program and monitor battery cyclers, investigate failures, and perform root-cause analysis.
• Develop lab infrastructure strategy, including cyclers, chambers, fixtures, and channel capacity.
• Analyze and present test data to technical and non-technical stakeholders to support qualification and risk decisions.
• Improve test methodology and collaborate with software and data engineering teams on automation.

Requirements

• BS or MS in Mechanical, Chemical, Materials, or Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong understanding of lithium-ion cell behavior, operating limits, failure modes, and degradation mechanisms.
• Hands-on experience with HPPC, EIS, dQ/dV analysis, and cycle life testing.
• Proficiency in Python or MATLAB for data analysis and scripting.
• Experience with Arbin, Maccor, Neware, or comparable battery cycler platforms, including programming and troubleshooting.
• At least 3 years of relevant experience and strong cross-functional communication skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with AI coding assistants such as Cursor or Claude Code.
• Background in EV battery pack qualification or validation programs.
• Familiarity with UN38.3, UL2580, or UL1974 battery safety and compliance standards.
