Battery Engineer - Electrical

Location: Position is based out of the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania plant. The posting also lists New Kensington, Pennsylvania, and San Francisco, California.

Base salary: $81,000–$120,000 per year, with potential annual incentive and/or long-term incentives.

What you will do

• Define and document high- and low-voltage distribution, interfaces, and protection systems for battery packs.
• Create electrical schematics covering sensors, contactors, fuses, connectors, harnesses, and control electronics.
• Select and integrate current sensors, power electronics, microcontrollers, and related hardware.
• Perform thermal management and power dissipation analyses across environmental and load conditions.
• Design, simulate, test, and debug circuits for measurement, control, and protection.
• Develop validation plans, analyze test data, support safety and compliance activities, and communicate technical recommendations to customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted refugee or asylee due to export control requirements.
• Must work from the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania plant.
• At least 3 years of system-level design experience with lithium-ion battery packs or related electrical systems and at least 4 years of engineering experience in automotive, aerospace, industrial, or related sectors.
• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline with strong practical systems-design experience.
• Proficiency in electrical system design and schematic capture, including high- and low-voltage component selection and integration.
• Knowledge of thermal management, power dissipation, high-voltage safety, EMC/EMI, grounding, and shielding.

Nice to have

• Master’s or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Hands-on experience with battery management systems, control algorithms, or embedded electronics.
• Functional safety experience, including ISO 26262 or equivalent standards.
• Project leadership, cross-functional technical coordination, battery modeling, or experimental validation experience.
