Director of Cell Equipment and Manufacturing Engineering (Battery Manufacturing)

Base pay: $207,000–$262,000 per year

What you will do

• Build and lead the technical organization responsible for cell equipment and manufacturing engineering.
• Define equipment specifications, standard line architecture, machine safety protocols, and layouts for electrode, assembly, formation, aging, and end-of-line testing.
• Lead global equipment sourcing, vendor evaluations, technical agreements, design reviews, and FAT/SAT activities.
• Direct equipment installation, commissioning, mechanical and electrical bring-up, and line optimization through qualified high-yield production.
• Integrate facilities and utilities including cleanrooms, dry rooms, solvent recovery, hazardous-material handling, and dry-air systems.
• Lead automation and digital integration across PLCs, robotics, machine controls, MES, production data, quality metrics, and maintenance scheduling.

Requirements

• Onsite work in Alameda, California is required.
• 10+ years of experience in equipment engineering, battery manufacturing engineering, or automated industrial machinery bring-up, including 5+ years leading technical engineering teams.
• Direct experience with lithium-ion cell machinery such as mixers, coaters, slitters, winders or stackers, tab welders, sealers, electrolyte filling, formation and aging systems, and end-of-line test equipment.
• Experience managing global equipment OEM selection, technical RFQs, design reviews, FAT, SAT, commissioning, and line bring-up.
• Practical knowledge of dry-room dew-point controls, cleanrooms, and chemical or hazardous-media safety compliance.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanical, electrical, chemical engineering, materials science, or a related technical field.

Nice to have

• Experience in fast-paced, high-growth hardware environments.
• Experience developing GWh-scale equipment sourcing roadmaps, supplier matrices, and capital expenditure plans.
