Battery Systems Engineer (Robotics)

What you will do

• Own battery-system development for NEO from architecture and component selection through prototyping, validation, and production.
• Design production-ready battery packs integrating cells, busbars, interconnects, sensing, protection, BMS hardware, thermal management, enclosures, and structural interfaces.
• Define and validate cell and pack requirements across charge, discharge, peak power, temperature, aging, and real-world robot duty cycles.
• Improve energy density, power capability, thermal performance, cycle life, reliability, serviceability, safety, cost, and manufacturability through testing and iteration.
• Develop characterization and validation methods, fixtures, and test equipment for cells, modules, packs, charging systems, and battery safety.
• Support prototype builds, design validation, NPI, supplier qualification, reliability testing, and production ramp while collaborating across electrical, mechanical, embedded software, controls, manufacturing, reliability, and supply chain teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related engineering field.
• 5+ years of experience developing battery systems, energy storage systems, or complex electromechanical products.
• Strong engineering fundamentals in battery systems, electrochemistry, electrical systems, thermal management, and hardware development.
• Deep understanding of lithium-ion cell behavior, battery pack architecture, charging and discharging, degradation, thermal performance, cycle life, safety, and fault conditions.
• Experience with battery characterization and validation, physical testing, data analysis, failure-mode identification, design mitigation, fixtures, and test equipment.
• Ability to support hardware from prototype development through design validation and production while working across multidisciplinary engineering organizations.

Nice to have

• Battery systems experience in robotics, electric vehicles, consumer electronics, aerospace, drones, or other high-performance mobile products.
• Experience with cylindrical, pouch, or prismatic cells, cell selection and qualification, and cell manufacturers or battery suppliers.
• Experience with BMS, state estimation, protection strategies, thermal modeling, cooling systems, high-current electrical design, busbars, connectors, fusing, and contactors.
• Experience with cycler-based characterization, life-cycle testing, abuse testing, reliability validation, SOC/SOH analysis, and degradation modeling.
• Familiarity with UL, IEC, and UN 38.3 battery safety and transportation standards.
